South Africa welcomes iTunes Gift Cards to their shelves as Apple enthusiasts can now shop at the iTunes store to their heart’s content.

Just in time for Christmas, the iTunes Gift Card, valid only on the iTunes Store for South Africa, could be just the gift you were looking to buy a family member, friend or loved one. Available at all South African iStores, Pick n Pay, Makro and DionWired stores, getting your hands on one is pretty simple. Gift card denominations range between R150, R250 and R450 gift cards.

Yesterday I went out and tried out one of these new funky designed cards and was amazed at how simple it was to use.

An iTunes novice myself, I thought that buying, loading and purchasing with the gift card would be quite the feat, but much to my surprise, it was fairly simple.

Rushing off to my nearest Pick n Pay store in Johannesburg, I bought my first iTunes Gift Card to the value of R150 which I found on the racks at the till points right above all the chocolates and sweets.

Admittedly, actually buying the card itself proved to be the biggest hassle for me because of the staff at Pick n Pay who were unsure of how to scan the gift card, whether or not it had to be activated in store or even what the gift card was used for. But once I got this sorted out, I happily walked out of the store, card in hand and ready to make my very first iTunes purchase.

Personally, I don’t own any Apple devices, but fortunately, iTunes is available on Windows too, so using the gift card on a regular PC will work just as well. But if you are an Apple fanatic, the gift card can be redeemed on your Mac, iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

All it took were five simple steps including:

  • Opening iTunes and clicking on the iTunes Store
  • Clicking on ‘redeem’
  • Peeling off the label and entering the code
  • Downloading the content that I wanted and that’s it

I was impressed at the efficiency and simplicity in using the gift card. In my opinion, the iTunes gift cards should be a hit with sky-rocketing sales.

Needless to say, this won’t be my last time trying it out and I definitely recommend it as the perfect gift this Christmas.

I am one of those people who have a number of loyalty cards, from my Pick and Pay Smart Shopper, to a Woolworths Rewards Card, Edgars Reward Card, Spar Loyalty Card and so many others. However, the problem I have is overloading my purse with all these cards, or even worse, making a purchase at one of the shops, only to realize that I’ve left one of my cards at home,  therefore missing out on a chance to achieve rewards.

I recently came across the Cardless Loyalty Card App, available on the Android Market and at the iPhone Store and is free to download.

Now, those card crazed loyalty shoppers like me can store as many loyalty cards on your Cardless account as you want. No more worries about leaving your cards at home and missing out on gaining loyalty points or rewards. The cards are digitally stored on your smartphone.

It’s a no fuss app, that’s quick and easy to download and convenient to have. According to the Cardless Loyalty card App website. All it takes is a simple download of the app, opening an account, loading your loyalty cards and highlighting your favourites and then shopping and earning.

Loyalty customers can now swipe and earn with ease without having to waste time digging in their bags, wallets and purses for their cards. Forget about wear and tear on your cards or numbers which have faded. Shoppers this Christmas can concern themselves more with carrying the plenty of Christmas goodies they’ll be buying and the rewards they’ll be earning, no cards, no fuss, just your smartphone.

If I were a shoe shop…

shanaazp —  November 14, 2013 — Leave a comment

The other day I went to the mall with a friend of mine, and if any one else is like me, then you could imagine just how absolutely crazy I went for all the different shoes and shoe shops. I particularly love summer time shopping not only because of all the amazing summer sandals, but also because this is the best time to get great bargains on winter boots.

Only problem with this is that I often tend to go a little bit overboard, over budget and over what I really should be spending, on shoes at least.

So I started thinking how I could make this shoe obsession easier and more manageable for myself and others like me, as well as for merchants who aim to please their customers? I immediately imagined if I were a shoe shop and thought of ways in which Tutuka’s prepaid card system could help me in my shoe shopping endeavors.

If I were a shoe shop I would consider several prepaid options for my store:

  1. Gift cards
  • Gift – If for example a customer needs to buy a gift for a friend or a family member. Perhaps the person that they are buying for is fussy, so as a shoe shop merchant I could advise them to buy a gift card so whoever they are buying for can pick what they like.
  • These gift cards could also come in handy for buying for boyfriends or girlfriends, especially when you don’t know which shoes or sneakers to get for them, so this offers them the opportunity to shop for what they like.
  • Control spending – If other customers are anything like shoe shopaholics, this option will be a life saver and will help you go easy on your pocket when shoe shopping
  • Manage returns –This is helpful if I were a shoe shop merchant who has customers who either received a gift that they weren’t a fan of or was not the correct size or even for those who are a little more fickle minded. Instead of handing a customer cash back when they return an item, give them a gift card for the same value and don’t lose out on the sale.

2.   SMS vouchers

I could use and issue SMS vouchers at my shoe shop in instances where perhaps a customer wants to buy a pair of shoes for a friend or family member living in another city, but would prefer them to pick their own style or size, whatever the case may be. My customers could buy SMS vouchers from me, send them to the person they are buying for and the shopping can begin, provided that the purchase is made at one of my chain stores.

3.     Rewards cards

After all these purchases at my store, I can reward my customers for their loyalty and give them rewards cards that they can swipe every time they make a purchase. Points will eventually earn a free item from my store. It will also help move customers up rewards tiers to become eligible for discounts.

4.      Incentive cards

To encourage my staff to make sales I give them a commission in the form of points, similar to how a rewards card would work for loyal customers. They swipe their card and earn points every time they make a sale. The points will eventually allow them to get an item from the store.

As a shoe store owner, how do I offer this to my clients?

If I were a butchery…

shanaazp —  November 12, 2013 — Leave a comment

Grocery shopping is an inevitable part of most of our lives and with growing inflation and growing prices, budgeting, more often than not comes into play.

Nothing is worse than getting to a till to pay for your groceries and realizing that you’ve gone over budget, and that you still have other stops to make, like a visit to your local butchery perhaps.

That got me to thinking, surely there must be an easier way to ensure that I stay within my budget when it comes to spending on groceries, whether it be on meat, veggies or whatever. So having a look at Tutuka’s prepaid card system, I thought of easy ways that this could become helpful in aiding me, let say, if I were a butchery for example.

Using the prepaid system, customers at my butchery could now have prepaid amounts of their budgeted costs to spend on their meat, without the concern of overspending. Now they could also send their grandparents, children or flatmates to do the monthly meat shopping, without the concern that the money will be accidentally spent on anything else or lost.

So, as a butchery, how would I go about doing this?

What are the benefits of this?

  • No more budgetary stresses
  • No more worry about overspending money meant for other goods
  • Moving forward onto a paperless system

From rewards to gifts and incentives, there are plenty of other uses for butchery prepaid cards.

1-  Butchery gift cards

  • For corporate entities as prizes for customers
  • For corporate entities as incentives for employees
  • For the general public as gifts
  • For my management to give to loyal guests

2-    Rewards cards

  • Reward loyal guests for continued business
  • Swipe anytime they use a butchery in my chain
  • Swipes help them build up points or monetary value
  • Exchange points for a butchery gift card, a discount on their next buy or perhaps a free deal.

3-   Incentive cards

  • For my employees
  • Source of motivation
  • Employee of the month will receive a free deal.

How?

  • My first step is to create card numbers on the Tutuka website
  • I could print these numbers onto anything from paper vouchers to plastic cards
  • Once existing clients have done their sale, I could also issue them with a discount voucher on other offerings at my butchery, offering them an opportunity to come back
  • A gift card can be sold, to customers who wish to give them as a gift for those braai enthusiasts
  • The card is scanned or swiped for the payment of these goods sold

Here’s how I could go prepaid at my butchery:

1- Go to Tutuka’s website

2- Set your login details

signup (800x363)

(NB: you will be derided for weak passwords)
