I was speaking to a friend of mine the other day who I haven’t seen since high school. As catching up usually goes, we got to the talking about what we’ve been up to over the years and what we were doing now.
As she got to speaking about her job, she mentioned that, being in the facilitator field, she and colleagues would often travel to remote and rural areas where they would facilitate various projects and dialogues, doing outreaches, running workshops and the likes.
Despite being one of the main facilitators at her company, she said that with the travel, they would often employee locals to assist in the running of workshops and other things, but that paying them would often prove to be a shlep because many of them are unbanked, and carrying large amounts of money, or even cheques, especially while traveling, could be quite risky.
That got me thinking, as a facilitator, a quick, easy and convenient way of resolving this problem would be for her company to get payroll or PayCards, such as the Standard Bank PayCard or the Altech NuPay NuCard.
Both of these PayCards are a secure, PIN-based and simple alternatives to making cheque or cash payments and can only be used in South Africa. Now employers or company’s can pay part time employees without all the hassle of bank accounts or having cash on hand. With PayCards, there is no need to visit or go into banks to apply for them and can be done so online, simply by visiting the Standard Bank PayCard site and the Altech NuPay NuCard site and signing up there.
PayCards are reloadable and are the perfect option to use to pay unbanked empolyees. They can be used to withdraw money from any South African ATM and swiped at any point of sale site, bearing the MasterCard logo. Companies could also use these cards as a way of keeping petty cash or paying wages.
So, by signing up for any of these PayCards, my friend could alleviate the stress of having to carry cash on hand, giving her employees the peace of mind that they have been paid and that their money is secure, even without a bank account and she could use these PayCards for three years before they expire, so it also works great for employees employed on a contractual basis too.
